Google Hummingbird Algorithm
The overhaul, a Google protocol named Hummingbird, is the greatest change to the underpinnings of the SEO world. Right after Google`s caffeine algorithm update, Google announced this Hummingbird release on Google`s 15th birthday. The algorithm has been running live for about a month, and thus it currently affects 90 percent of worldwide searches via Google.
Why is Google revamping its protocol?
Google has struggled to recall back with massive change. In 2010, the "Caffeine Update" brought a huge change. But that was also a change mostly meant to help Google better gather information (indexing) rather than sorting through the information based on relevance. In 1998 if you wanted to access a search engine you`d sit down and boot up your bulky computer, dial up on your squawky modem, type in some keywords, and get 10 blue color links to websites that had those words you typed as keywords. But by today millions of people are carrying Google in their pocket. Google is trying to keep pace with the evolution of Internet usage by common people.
Does this mean SEO is dead?
No, SEO is not yet dead. It has been a growing technology since Google`s birth. Google conveys there`s nothing new or different SEOs or publishers need not to worry about. Guidance remains the same, it says: if you have original, high-quality content; Hummingbird just allows Google to process it in new and hopefully better ways to answer the typed query.
Elevation of Hummingbird
Hummingbird is focused on websites ranking information based on a more intelligent understanding of search requests given by internet users. As Internet data volumes explode we increasingly have to type more and more possible words into Google Search to gain greater accuracy of our search results. Often we need to conduct multiple searches to find the apt information we are looking for, which is a frustrating and time-consuming task.
Search results produced by Hummingbird will reflect the whole semantic meaning of longer search phrases and should bring more accurate results.
Combating Google Hummingbird
Google is becoming more and more personalized, displaying results that are user-specific and based on information from previous searches and physical location (searches will track your locations). So local SEO is becoming more popular and important as these localized searches and results become more prominent and helpful to winning Google`s new release.
It seems that Google is continuing to move away from the old, "keyword-based" approach to delivering results, and is moving towards delivering more "dynamic" results that will fulfill the searcher's expectations.
